2010-2011 Transition to a New School Year for Teacher Classroom Websites

Click here for full document and information on the Transition

Timeline:

  • June/July 2010 >>Through the summer, you can continue to work on your class web sites from the 2009-10 school year, however keep in mind that some content (**See note) is not transferable when the new classes are imported in August.
  • August 13, 2010 Rollover Part One >>
All class websites will be automatically archived on this date to prepare for the import of 2010-11 classes.  Please do not work in your class websites on this date until after the new classes are imported on August 14.
  • August 14, 2010 >>
The new classrooms import will contain courses for the 2010-11 school year.  The first time logging in to your site, teachers will see a yellow box indicating that new classrooms have been created.  This simple system is designed to help you transfer content from your old archived classrooms into your fresh new classrooms.  Any existing classrooms from the prior school year will remain archived until they are deleted.
  • August 24, 2010 Rollover Part Two >>
The Student data and class membership imports will join students to classrooms.
Steps to Activate your New Class Websites:
The first time you login to your site after the August 13 Rollover, you will see a notification indicating that the new class Web sites have been created for you (See example at right)

  1. Select the previous class from each drop-down box for each of your new classrooms

  2. When you have completed this process, click the “Activate New Class Sites” button to activate your new classrooms and populate them with content from the previous class.

  3. (Activating New Class Sites without matching a previous class site to a new class site will result in only activating clean new class sites without content from previous year)  In this case, the import/export feature in Class Configuration will allow you to transfer content from one class to another.

**Note** The  following content is not included in the transition:  Calendar Events, Classroom Tasks, Homepage files (files uploaded via Announcements or Class Web Pages), Membership, and Wikis.  Some feature such as the Homework Assignments, Blogs, Slideshows, Podcasts and Videos can be repurposed using the Reuse Feature.  Quiz Question Banks are now automatically shared between all Classroom FusionPages that you administer.   Read full document for further details.

Fusion Tools (AfterClass) White Papers:

What are Fusion Tools?
Fusion Tools is the first solution ever to successfully infuse Web 2.0 tools into the classroom. It's a comprehensive, multi-media platform offering; Blogs, Podcasts, Photo Galleries, Wiki's, Messaging and RSS Feeds. These tools all coexist in an integrated k12 safe (i.e. CIPA compliant) environment.  And is organized in a manner that’s ideal for teachers through incredible simplicity and efficiency tools that merge the values of class Websites and email communication..

Fusion Tools' student participation platform, also known as "commenting" enables students to converse online on educational topics.  It's an incredible help for teachers who wish to engage students in interactive learning activities after the traditional time in a classroom ends.

Fusion Tools also includes a unique RSS feed solution which gives each user their own personal feed.  These personal RSS feeds contain information regarding their personal events, general school information and any updates from all of their teachers.  Additionally, traditional RSS feeds are available for the school and each teacher.
